     Welcome to Summer 2008

Weed Warriors Wanted!

The Teaneck Creek Conservancy is at a pivotal point in its development. Scientific studies undertaken by our project partners, Rutgers University and TRC Omni Environmental, have collected data for the last three years in an effort to characterize and establish baseline hydrologic conditions in the park. An important component of the documentation generated by their study is a map detailing the locations of desirable and undesirable plant species.

Like conservation areas around the nation, Teaneck Creek Park is being overrun by non-native invasive plant species which threaten a wide range of native vegetation. Next to habitat loss, invasives are the single largest cause of species extinction worldwide. A comprehensive and effective plan to control exotic weeds on our site is a critical component of the next phase of restoration.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! The Conservancy is looking for volunteers who can commit two to three hours each week to help weed out the "bad", and nurture the "good". After training, volunteers can work independently or meet as a group.
