Box Turtle

Box turtles are native to North America, they are known as box turtles for their hinged shell allowing them to pull their legs and head into their shell for protection.

Skunk Cabbage

Skunk Cabbage, Symplocarpus foetidus

Skunk cabbage is a perennial wildflower that grows in swampy, wet areas of forest lands. It is one of the first blooms in winter. Breaking any part of the plant gives off a strong stinky odor which is how it got its common name!

Crocus are non-native flowers that bloom in early spring. The flowers are often purple but can be white and are typically found along the bank of Teaneck Creek.

Also known as common reed, is a non-native wetland grass that is known for outcompeting native plants. It can grow to be over 15 feet tall and is easily identified by it’s fluffy seed head.
