Teaneck Creek’s School & Scout Programs

Are you looking for private programming options for a school or organization? Consider Teaneck Creek’s programming. Students will strengthen their knowledge and appreciation for the environment while exploring unique outdoor ecosystems with TCC personnel. Coronavirus precautions continue to be in effect.

Please Note Teaneck Creek Conservatory is a rustic county park. We have no covered facilities in the event of rain and no bathroom facilities. Please plan accordingly.

  • All programs are one hour. 

  • No restrooms are available on site.

  •  Students should wear appropriate outdoor gear, sturdy, closed-toe footwear, and masks. Please no hand-held devices. 

  • Rain or shine; the program will take place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, the program may be cancelled or rescheduled. 

  • $50 deposit required.

Program Descriptions

Environmental Stewardship: Grades K-8

Students will learn about “leave no trace” principles before going on a guided hike at Teaneck Creek. They will learn about the impact of pollution on the ecosystem, including point source and nonpoint source pollution, microplastics, and storm water run-off. 

This program meets the requirements for the Girl Scout’s Environmental Stewardship Badge for Daisy: Eco Learner, Cadette: Eco Trekker, Senior: Eco Explorer, and Ambassador: Eco Advocate.


Native Plants: Grades K-8

Students will learn about ecosystems and what plants need to survive and grow. They will get to identify native plants and invasive species within the park. After our hike, students will participate in a seed planting activity. They will plant a native seed and get to take home their new plant.

This program meets the requirements for the Girl Scout’s Naturalist Badge for Brownie: Bugs, Junior: Flower, Cadette: Trees, and Senior: Sky.

This program meets the requirements for the Cub Scout’s WEBELOS Into the Woods Badge.


StreamLife: Grades 5-12

Students will experience the ecology of Teaneck Creek first hand, as real citizen scientists conducting a macroinvertebrate study! Students will learn about the various factors that impact water quality. They will capture macroinvertebrates for analysis and identify them using a dichotomous key. Educators will lead discussion on ecosystem health and environmental stressors that can affect macroinvertebrate populations. 

This program meets the requirements for the Girl Scout’s Citizen Science Badge for Daisy: Think Like A Citizen Scientist, Brownie: Citizen Science, Junior: Citizen Science, Cadette: Citizen Science, Senior: Citizen Science, and Ambassador: Citizen Science, and the Naturalist Badge for Ambassador: Water.


Water Quality: Grades 5-12

Students will get up close to the Creek while conducting real water quality tests! They will learn about the factors that impact water quality within our watershed, including pollution, microplastics, and storm water run-off. They will have the chance to be real citizen scientists, testing water quality metrics such as temperature, pH, salinity, and nitrate levels. 

This program meets the requirements for the Girl Scout’s Citizen Science Badge for Daisy: Think Like A Citizen Scientist, Brownie: Citizen Science, Junior: Citizen Science, Cadette: Citizen Science, Senior: Citizen Science, and Ambassador: Citizen Science, and the Naturalist Badge for Ambassador: Water.


Eco-Art: Native Bee House or Bird House: Ages 8+

Students will explore the unique habitat and eco-art installations at Teaneck Creek. They will learn about ephemeral artwork and have the opportunity to create art inspired by nature. Students will utilize nature materials found at the Creek to build and decorate native bee houses. After the program they will get to take their artwork home with them to encourage native bee populations in their own yards. 

This program meets the requirements for the Girl Scout’s Art in the Outdoors Badge for Daisy: Outdoor Art Maker, Brownie: Outdoor Art Creator, Junior: Outdoor Art Explorer, Cadette: Outdoor Art Apprentice, Senior: Outdoor Art Expert and Ambassador: Outdoor Art Master.

This program meets the requirements for the Cub Scout Tiger Badge Backyard Jungle Badge


Rent a Naturalis: All Ages and Interest Groups

Generally curious about our conservancy, it's history, our plants, and the many animals that live at the creek? Curious about the trees you've seen on your many hikes? Our naturalist can answer those questions and more when you Rent a Naturalist for a one hour guided nature walk at Teaneck Creek Conservancy. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Limit 1 family per appointment. Contact us at info@teaneckcreek.org to arrange a mutually agreed upon time and date for your guided nature walk. As a stand-alone program cost $50/hour.


Teaneck Creek proudly works with Scouts annually in the pursuit of Gold Award and Eagle Award projects.
