This week’s highlighted visitor: The Mallard Duck!
A duck you can spot in ponds, rivers, and lakes, Mallards are vibrant waterfowl with glossy green heads and bright orange bills. These curious birds swim gracefully across the water, dipping their heads below the surface to search for food or gliding through the ripples with slow, steady strokes. Their familiar quacking calls are often heard in the early morning and evening, a cheerful sound as they waddle along the shoreline or take flight in search of new waters.
While Mallards are the most common duck species found at Teaneck Creek Park, in the winter, it is always worth taking a close look for other duck species such as the Pintail or American Black Duck hanging out in mixed-species flocks, or rafts are birds on the water are called.
